Life’s a Festival

In the UK the summer has arrived at last, and that glowing orb of fire in the sky can now be identified as something called the sun – a sight unfamiliar to many of us. As Glastonbury gets under way, it’s time to remember that this is also the time for a number of reggae festivals and outdoor gigs with the chance to hear the music loud and live in the fresh air.  On 23rd August UB40 “featuring Ali Campbell” are due at Leazes Park in Newcastle along with DJ David Rodigan. Rather different in tone is the “ultimate skinhead meet and greet” at the Sun Castle in Skegness from 13th to 15th September where the Rum and Reggae Boys host a number of acts. On a larger scale, the Reggae Land festival at Milton Keynes National Bowl on the 3rd and 4th August promises artists including Gyptian, Yellowman, Maxi Priest  and Burning Spear which sounds a real treat despite being in Milton Keynes. In the United States, the respected Mammoth Reggae Festival runs from 19th to 21st July, to be found in the eastern Sierras within reach of California and urban areas in the West. There’s plenty going on. Of course this is not to forget numerous reggae festivals to be found in Europe, especially in France. Find and enjoy!
