Messian Dread: Dangerous Discomixes

Back to the future with this new album from Netherlands producer Messian Dread. Discomixes were of course the rather misleadingly named extended 12” mixes of reggae singles popularised in the 70s and 80s, often starting with the vocal track then sliding straight into the dub version, where the rhythm track is adorned by vocalising and toasting over the top. On this release, nine reggae rhythms with a familiar feel are mixed into a 12” style with vocals provided by some big names including Dillinger, U-Roy and Horseman – all of which, the album cover says, are used with permission. You won’t find anything surprising on this release, just good old-school reggae with Messian’s impressive production values. Sit back and enjoy.
