David Cairol: Morphed Faces

Featuring top Jamaican musicians including Sly Dunbar, Earl ‘China’ Smith and Bongo Herman, this is a new and highly melodic reggae single from David Cairol. With two studio albums under his belt, he has toured widely from his base in France, including travels to his spiritual inspiration in Jamaica where he took part in workshops and visited schools as well as being inspired to develop his own songwriting skills. As on this single, he has worked with some of the biggest names in reggae, including Judy Mowatt and Marcia Griffiths and has also struck up a productive working relationship with Brinsley Forde (Aswad), garnering respect from the reggae world as a whole.

This release is melodically strong, upbeat and fits well into the received reggae tradition while just about steering clear of the pop-reggae label. Its instrumentation is of the quality to be expected of the musicians involved.  His earlier singles include Hope Road (2020) and Building Bridges (2021) and he has a new album due for release in April 2023. Good to hear this single as it shows that reggae roots are still growing for new generations of listeners.
